What Type of Dog Food to Give to Your Dog

What kind of dog food to give your dog will be a task in itself. If you just got a puppy and you gave it some regular dog food, your dog won’t be happy with you. And the same goes true if you have an older dog, don’t give your dog puppy food you got from the neighbor. Lets look at some of the different types of dog food available today.

The one that is most common is dry food. That is because it is easy for the dog owner, but is it good for your dog. You need to make sure that your dog is getting the right nutritional vitamins that your dog needs. There are many different types of dog food for the type of dog you have. Stay with a brand of food you are familiar with if you are not sure what to do.

If you are giving your dog can food, make sure it is for the type of dog you have. High quality dog food is the best for your dog. You will need to do some homework to see what type to give your dog. There are so many on the market today and they all say that are what you need. Check with your veterinarian to see what they recommend. If you have a puppy, chicken or fish would be in the number one spot on the list. That will give him the protein that he needs for his eyes, teeth, lungs, brain and bones. You want to make sure that you are giving your dog what he needs to stay healthy.

The number one priority for puppies and adult dogs needs to be quality protein source in their food. You can get that in both dry or can food. Most dry food is corn meal and has much less nutritious value, so you would not want to feed that to your puppy.

Something that is gaining popularity is BARF. That stands for “bones and raw food”. It is very healthy and good for your dog. The down side is that it takes a lot of time to make up and will be very messy. It can also stink up the house. If you have your dog on dry food now and you want to start giving him bones and raw food, mix it half and half for a few days. If he is getting use to it and likes it, then you can stop the dry dog food. All dog are different in their own way and you know your dog. He will let you know if he does not like it.

Your dog is your best friend and also very smart. You want to keep him happy and healthy by giving him the right food. If you have a puppy, look for the best puppy food. If you have an adult dog, look for adult dog food. Keep in mind that the best quality dog food and the healthiest dog foods are the best. You might need some low fat dog food for your dog or high performance dog food. You want your dog healthy and happy, don’t you.

Food Dehydrator Buying Tips and Uses

How do you buy a food dehydrator? What are watts on a food dehydrator? More importantly, why own a food dehydrator? Well in this article you’ll learn a little more about all 3 questions and why they are important and why you should consider owning a food dehydrator.

When looking to select a food dehydrator don’t over spend and never buy a enormous food dehydrator unit if you are not going to use it. Buy the size you need most of the time people buy a food dehydrator that is either too cheap or too expensive and both can be equally as bad. If you buy a really expensive food dehydrator thinking its going to be the best it may not suit your needs. Or if you buy one too cheap thinking its more economical it may not have enough power to do what you want or even dry the food all the way.

A food dehydrators power is measured in wattage and you can think of this much like a light bulb. If you have a 100 watt light bulb that is bright right? However how bright would a 100 watt bulb be in a 2000 sq foot area? It’d still be bright but wouldn’t fill the whole area. So if you buy a food dehydrator with a 20 tray capacity and you use all 20 trays and fill them up and you have 500 watts of power it may not dry it all the way through. Rather you should focus on smaller batches of maybe 8-10 trays total dehydrating at the same time. My favorite type of food dehydrator is probably a 1000 watt dehydrator that can be expanded up to 20 trays. Again I’d never use all 20 trays at once for the fact it doesn’t dehydrate as well. On the opposite end of the spectrum if you buy a 1000 watt food dehydrator and you only use 2 trays in it it might over dehydrate and that you do not want either. If ever in doubt shoot for 1000 watts and 10 trays to keep it at a happy medium.

Avoid mixing too many different kinds of items in the same batch of a food dehydrator. If you have to many different things that dehydrate at different levels you can end up with some items over dehydrated and some under and having under dehydrated food leaves the chance the food could develop bacteria which could give you on afternoon in the bathroom. So owning a food dehydrator and having the right one is as important as using the food dehydrator correctly.

If you are questioning why you should even own a food dehydrator here are a few reasons to ponder. If you like to buy dried fruits or meats you know they can be expensive. However drying them and dehydrating them yourself can save quite a bit of money and that alone will quickly pay for the $60-$100 you could spend on one. Another great thing with a food dehydrator is drying and curing meats. If you like dried and dehydrated meat this is great. Again money comes into play here as a 1lb bag of store bought jerky goes for about 5 dollars or more. You could easily make 2 lbs or more for the same price yourself. Another great thing about a food dehydrator is that you can make your own snacks with as little or as much salt and sugar as you’d like and you know exactly what is in your food. These tips may just help you the next time you decide to buy a food dehydrator or when you are doing your next batch of dehydrated food.
